There are a number of online spray tan certifications available and they are easy to find. With a quick Google search, you can find a number of courses, trainings and more. The challenge is trying to understand which training course is right for you. Here's a quick answer:
The quality of the training depends on YOU.
Yes, I know...spoiler alert 😀. No matter how good, or bad, the training is, you must invest your time and money into the right tools to create a successful spray tan business.
The challenge with an online course is the fact that you miss out on the hands-on training, which is a key to most spray tan certification courses. Being able to spray tan a live model with the help of a sunless trainer is a huge benefit.
What to look for in a training program
If you are going to invest your time and hard-earned money in a spray tan course, you should do your due diligence to make sure that the training will get you from where you are, to where you want to go. That would mean to take you from being an inexperienced spray tan artist, all the way to a certified and confident spray tanner. And with the proper training, you can get there!
Who is providing the training?
If you find an online spray tan course then more than likely you will take some time to do your own research into who the person (or people) are that are offering the course. You want to make sure that they have some experience in the industry and/or have run a successful spray tan business in the past.
For instance, the online training certification that we created here at happytans was done with the help of Michelle. She owns her own very successful spray tan business and actually has multiple locations. While I have 10 years of experience in the industry, most of my time has been spent on the product, business and technology side of the business.
It was important for us to bring in an artist who was competent and could train others. In addition, she also provided training for her own staff and had trained people all across the US.
How is it delivered?
I've seen it all! Not really, but I have seen a lot. In fact, a few years back I received a forwarded email from someone who had just taken an online training from a very popular trainer. The issue was that the training was in fact not very helpful at all. Instead of providing training, the person simply typed up a bunch of information and sent them a PDF once they paid for the training.
While reading through information can be helpful for some parts of the training program, the spray tan process should be shown in video format.
Ideally, the process should be reviewed on more than one model so the students can experience the tanning process on different body types, sizes, and shapes.
What happens once I'm done?
After you've completed the training you will need some additional support to get comfortable with the process. Most quality training programs offer some type of support for after the training is completed.
