This word is monumental to you as a business owner. I can guarantee that every single person that is reading this article struggles with this. I know I do.
Focus is essentially the ability to pay attention to things that will help your business and avoid distractions that will hurt it.
A great podcast that I listen to always mentions a wonderful acronym for the word “focus”:
Follow
One
Course
Until
Success
I could go two ways with this article, so instead I will touch on both.
Avoiding distractions
How many times are you in the middle of working and then all the sudden find yourself on Facebook? Or instagram? Or twitter? Or browsing the internet for something completely irrelevant? We all do it!
These distractions are success and dream killers. Now days it is even more difficult than ever to avoid distractions. You have the computer, tablets, your phone that has notifications for text messages, Facebook, Facebook messages, twitter, instagram, snapchat…I could go on for days.
But if you REALLY want to be successful and drive your business, you must find a way to avoid these distractions at all cost.

“Airplane mode”
As an entrepreneur, I struggle mightily with distractions. You can come look at my computer at anytime. There’s music playing, 10 website tabs on each of my two monitors, I have my phone beside me, laptop open and running….ugh! It’s terrible!
I would sit and “work” all day and find that I got some things done, but not nearly as much as I wanted to get done. What was going on?!
I decided that if I was going to work on something, I would zero in on the task at hand and that was it! I would close everything unrelated, and put my phone on airplane mode.
I found that I could get things done in 30 minutes that normally would take me 1-2 hours to complete.
I get it, some of you can’t put your phone on airplane mode because you have people that may reach out to you. But do your best to silence your phone and know that anyone that really needs to get in touch with you, will.
To-do list
I love making my to-do list daily. This is a great way for me to look at what needs to be done, and then itemize out reach thing to make a solid and achievable list. I actually make my list for the next day the night before. This helps me keep my focus even better in the morning. (PS – We are most productive in the morning hours, so remember that when deciding which tasks to handle first)
I recommend mixing the list up a bit. What I mean by this is that I think it helps to have some tasks on there that you can sit down and complete, 100%. There are some tasks that are more of a project and you are just taking some time to work on it a bit.
What this does is it helps you feel more of a sense of accomplishment, and will boost your attitude, focus and your overall mental mindset.

Following that course…
Now, let me shift gears here…back to the whole follow one course until success thing. What does this mean for you? It is a completely different meaning for each person, but in the end there is still something you are setting out to achieve.
Are you working on your businesses social media?
Maybe adjusting some things on your website?
Reaching out to some local businesses that you could partner with?
All of these items are part of a bigger picture – running and operating a successful spray tan business. Do yourself a favor – take a step back and look at where you want to be and where you are. This will help you to be able to figure out what needs to be done to get to where you want to be.
It won’t be easy, but it will be worth it.
