Hey everyone. Grant from Happy Tans back here again to answer some more questions that we had. It looked like some people were posting in the forum that they were having an issue with getting pictures from their clients. I understand that. That’s a real challenge for a lot of people. People starting out in business need those images to put on their website, to put on their Facebook page, to help promote their business. That is important. That’s essential. I think it’s pretty vital to helping you get some feat, get a little momentum for your business.
Now, there’s a lot of ways that you can do this. I think a lot of people may be missing the boat on the fact that you’ve got to give something to get something. Unfortunately the way that humans work is, “What’s in it for me?” That’s just a natural instinct I believe that people have. When you’re asking for a review or when you’re asking for pictures, which is even more, because they know, “Hey, they’re going to use this photo for something,” and that’s probably what you’re going to use it for is a marketing or some way to promote your business so they understand, you know, “They want to look good, etc. We understand that.”
How do you get these images? I think the best thing that you can do is to really offer these people a free tan. Maybe somebody comes and you tell them, “Look, if you can, send me a picture. I’d be happy to give you a free tan next time you come.” You can leverage that opportunity in a couple of ways. One, you’re going to get the pictures that you need. Secondly, you can have them come back again. They’re going to love the tan, the service again. They’ll probably come back and pay the next time. You can sell them on a membership maybe while they’re there, do something like that. There’s a lot of opportunities here.
Another thing you can do is possibly, once in awhile do, “Hey, we’re going to do some free spray-tans in exchange for we want to get some pictures.” You don’t have to have a professional photographer. I understand that’s expensive. Phones are so good nowadays. They take such great pictures. Pop out your smartphone, get some good pictures of them. Get some nice scenery. Obviously you don’t have to have amazing scenery. You can find some anywhere in town. You know, a brick wall behind them looks great, a fence, whatever you want to do, okay? Find somewhere to get pictures. It doesn’t have to be rocket science. It doesn’t have to be perfect. It just needs to be usable for marketing for you to put on your website, to put on your Facebook.
When other people see pictures of your clients, they’re more apt to probably give you photos because they see, “Hey, I’m not the only one on there.” They see how you use those pictures for marketing and things like that. That’s really important. You have to give some to get some I think. I think a lot of people were missing that.
You can do another thing some people said was tagging, say, “If you tag us on social media, you’ll be entered in for a free tan.” That’s a good way to get some exposure. If they tag you and having given you the rights to the photo, it’s a good chance for you to say, “Hey look. Saw that photo. It was great. You are going to be entered into our free tan give away. By the way, I’d love to offer you X, Y and Z,” whether it’s a half-off tan, free tan something like that, in exchange for that photo because it’s so good.
That’s another way for you to leverage that. The whole point being here, is I think you have to give some to get some. Again, be selective with the clients that you do this with. You don’t have to offer it to everyone. Obviously you’re not like hiding this, but you know some people are going to give some, or are more willing to give photos than others. Select the people that you want to offer that to and offer it to them.
I challenge you to try to do that to try to incentivize people to get some pictures. Once you get a few pictures going into your gallery, it really helps to sell your business, it really helps to show … Look at the quality work. Look, it’s not orange. It looks good. It’s streak free. It looks natural. That’s really important for you and your business to get off the ground.
